As architects gather input on the design of the new Gardiner Middle School, some of the most creative ideas have come from students at Gardiner and Ogden.
Six students from each school joined the middle school planning team, and work alongside architects and teachers to help design a replacement of the 1954 school. Voters approved a bond issue to fund the project in the November 2018 election.
Sixth graders in the bilingual program at Gardiner are also part of a school design competition. They worked for months to survey staff and students, meet with architects, and tour schools, before designing a scale model in foam core.
Across town, students from Ogden built school models with the goal of resolving issues within their current building, then held a design showcase to present their work.
