EL Program Information

The English  Learner (EL) program's mission is to assist students with a home language other than English to become proficient in English.  Students and their families in the EL program represent 40+ different languages spoken throughout our Oregon City community. The EL program staff includes a .5 administrator, an EL coordinator, one full time secretary, 12 EL teachers and approximately 19 paraprofessionals. English language development (ELD) is taught by EL specialists through  pull-out sessions or push-in/co-taught content lessons at the elementary level and specifically designed class periods at the secondary level. The Oregon City School District also teaches ELD in its bilingual program (housed at Jennings Lodge, Candy Lane and Gardiner Middle School). The EL Program also offers additional support for EL students by scheduling paraprofessionals to assist EL students in selected mainstream classes. Finally, the EL Program coordinates professional development for all district staff in the area of sheltered instruction.  To read more about our EL program, please download our EL plan below.
