Department Head, Secondary
qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Valid Oregon standard certificate with appropriate subject endorsements.
A minimum of five years of successful teaching experience.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be deemed appropriate and acceptable.

job goal:
To work under the supervision of the building principal to provide coordination of the curriculum and instruction within an assigned department.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction/Curriculum
Interpret the department program to the school, administration and community.
Assist in the articulation of the school's educational program.
Represent the school and department in state subject-matter organizations when possible.
Review and make recommendations for all courses to be taught within the department.
Assist in coordinating the development of departmental curriculum guides which would include program goals and planned course statements.
Coordinate departmental efforts to choose curriculum materials; i.e., texts, supplementary materials, etc.
Represent the department in all inter-departmental meetings and report results to department members.
Assist the librarian in maintaining a reference and professional library.
Personnel
Periodically supervise and assist teachers assigned to the department to improve the quality of instruction.
Assist in the orientation of teachers new to the department.
Prepare and recommend to the administration, teaching assignments and schedules for all personnel assigned to the department.
Prepare and recommend assignments of all student teachers, teacher aides or clerical personnel assigned to the department.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and workyear to be established in accordance with the Certified Agreement.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the certified agreement.
