Transportation Routing Specialist


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or equivalent.

2. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

3. Ability to use office equipment including computer information input and retrieval.

4. Word processing and electronic spreadsheet experience.

5. Ability to master electronic transportation and routing system.

6. Ability to interact in a positive and professional manner with the public, co-worker, students and, administration.

7. Ability to make decisions and work independently.

8. Must be able to meet state and district bus driver requirements.

9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES:

None

JOB GOAL:

Responsible for routing school buses based on current demographic information and school bus capacities. Perform clerical and secretarial work including word processing, filing, and record keeping. Considerable public contact is involved.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for routing school buses from students’ designated stop to all schools. Creating bilingual routes and coordinates with schools to establish kindergarten routes including morning and afternoon pick up areas.

2. Assist in boundary updates, as well as assuring routing system maps are current, adding streets and new developments as needed.

3. Perform computer information input and retrieval including student data and routes coordinating with ESD for bi-weekly student downloads.

4. Ability to utilize a variety of software programs related to route scheduling. Assist in the preparation of routes and schedules of school buses for special education, athletic and field trips. Also responsible to maintain and monitor routes throughout the school year.

5. Assures accuracy of transportation maps, driver assignments and route sheets.

6. Place and receive telephone calls and record messages.

7. Respond to emergencies in absence of Transportation Supervisor.

8. Track and submit for payment transportation reimbursement forms.

9. Obtain, gather and organize pertinent data as needed and put it into usable form.

10. Create needed documents and forms, assist supervisor in correspondence including all route change letters.

11. Follow oral and written assignments.

12. Assist in dispatching duties.

13. Perform other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Twelve-month (12) year, eight (8) hours per day. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
