Extended School Year Instructional Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to maintain clerical records and filing systems.
2. Ability to make some independent judgments with prescribed policies and procedures.
3. Ability to lead student exercises and activities.
4. Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
5. Ability to communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the use of both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches.
6. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff and students.
7. Reasonable knowledge of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage and sentence construction of the English language as necessary to detect and correct basic errors in prepared material.
8. Demonstrated aptitude as necessary to perform duties of a tutorial nature as well as basic clerical tasks.
9. Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with staff and students.
10. In a four-hour shift, employee may:
a. Stand/Walk 2-3 hours
b. Drive 0-1 hours
c. Sit 0-1 hours
11. Employee may use hands for repetitive:
a. Single Grasping
b. Pushing and Pulling
c. Fine Manipulation
12. Employee may use feet for repetitive movement as in operating foot controls.

d. Lift Occasionally
14. Lifting: Moderate work, lifting 50 pounds occasionally to help students transfer from wheelchair to table or toilet as needed.
Physical Requirements: Working closely with students
can be both physically and emotionally tiring. May require
exposure to adverse weather conditions and noisy work
areas.

Principal or designee and certified teacher responsible for specific assignments.
SUPERVISES:
None
JOB GOAL:
Performs a variety of tutorial assignments under the direction of a certified teacher. May function in an instructional setting separate from the teacher without much supervision.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise group practices or activities under the direction but not necessarily in the immediate presence of the teacher.
2. Deal with behavior and discipline problems; personally resolve minor problems, inform teacher of major problems.
3. Type instructional and curriculum material from rough copy or dictation. Duplicates materials.
4. Keeps class attendance and related instructional records; files materials; checks materials in and out.
5. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for teaching or reinforcing material or skills based on individual student's needs, interests and abilities.
6. Prepares learning materials as dictated by prescribed education or lesson plans, exercises some judgment in the selection and use of materials within established guidelines.
7. Instructs students with physical, mental , and/or learning disabilities.
8. Serves as the primary source of information and assistance to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of a regular teacher.
9. Performs basic secretarial and clerical tasks associated with the production of materials for instructional programs; types and duplicates materials, files and maintains records.
10. Performs related duties as directed by the building administrator and certified teacher in charge.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
