Attendance & Absences
What to Do
Call your school to report an absence, or send a message via ParentSquare. You may also reply to the ParentSquare prompt should your student be marked absent.
You can also email the school for full-day absences, late arrivals, early pick-ups or bus notes.
Late/ Early Pick-up/ Absences
If your student is going to be late to school please remind them to stop at the front office for a late-slip to their class. Be sure to call ahead or email us so their tardy is excused.
If your student is going to be absent for the day please let us know before 10:30 am by calling your school’s phone number or using their email link.
If you need to pick your student up early, you can send a note with your student that they bring to the front office, or you can use the phone number or email above.
Please let us know at least one hour before picking them up.
Planned Extended Absences
For a planned extended absence please email attendance for the dates and purpose of the absence.
Homework Requests
For extended absences please email your student’s teachers (a group email is fine) regarding missing assignments or check ParentVue.
Your student should be checking their Google Classroom for homework to work on should that apply.
The Oregon City School District attendance policy demonstrates our commitment to ensure that each student has the best opportunity for academic, social and personal success. Studies show that students whose attendance is regular and consistent beginning in elementary school achieve higher academic goals, greater employment opportunities and wages and express greater personal satisfaction.
When students are late or absent, they miss important learning opportunities that are only available in school. When schools and families partner to ensure consistent daily attendance, students learn critical lifelong skills of responsibility, punctuality, and self-discipline. Our policy reflects our belief that students benefit most when they are at school every day, on time.
Excused absences must meet one of the following criteria:
Student illness or injury
Illness of a family member
Death of a family member
Family emergency of an unforeseen nature
Medical/dental appointments
Absences for any other reason and absences of 3 or more days are subject to approval of the Principal. Please obtain a form in the office.
