student Mental Health and Well-being Resource
We envision a future in which every student has the opportunity to pursue their aspirations and achieve success while learning in their own ways, and where school culture supports well-being and connection that enables every student to thrive.
In the Oregon City School District, there are key personnel who support your student with their behavioral and mental health. Those key people include classroom teachers, principals, instructional aides, and YOU! OCSD recognizes the partnership between home and school that is integral to the holistic success of each student.
There are also staff persons trained in mental and behavioral health. Here is an explanation of their role and how to reach them:
Counselors: At the elementary level, school counselors support the daily operations of the school while delivering direct student services (group and individual counseling check-ins; classwide lessons) as well as indirect services (consultation with teachers). Middle and high school counselors perform these duties as well as class scheduling and credit completion planning. All counselors manage the 504 process and are 504 case managers.
School Psychologists: School psychologists often work at multiple school sites to support identification and programming for students experiencing disabilities who have Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs). They work mostly in consultation with staff.
Social Workers: District social workers are knowledgeable about community resources and are trained mental health specialists. They receive referrals from school staff around family needs that may arise.
