Instructional Assistant - Autism & Behavioral Skills
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree required
2. Knowledge of students with social and behavioral issues including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or related needs. Training and experience in providing school-based autism services.
3. Familiarity with inclusive education strategies.
4. Ability to assist with support, or familiar with, appropriate screenings and assessments.
5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Excellent time and material organizational skills.
7. Familiarity with functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
8. Two years of direct service with special education/high risk children in a school setting, preferred.
9. General knowledge of PECS and PECS computer design programs.
10. Ability to assist with student activities including educational, behavioral intervention, and social skills development components
REPORTS TO:
Director of Student Services, Principal or designee.
SUPERVISES:
None
JOB GOAL:
Assists in supporting systems and routine implementation for students experiencing autism in collaboration with the Autism and Behavioral Skills Specialist, Student Services and IEP teams. May function in an instructional setting without much supervision.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. At the instruction of the Autism and Behavioral Specialist, assists building teams and school psychologists with evaluation of children with autism spectrum disorder or other social/behavioral challenges.
2. Provide support to school teams regarding appropriate supports, social skills development and educational strategies for children with Autism spectrum Disorder and/or related needs.
3. Ability to multi-task and switch focus as necessary.
4. Provide functional behavioral analysis training and consultation to school teams working with children with social behavioral needs stemming from ASD or other neurodevelopmental needs.
5. Position requires training and the ability to share information with other staff through professional development and individual instruction.
6. Assist Autism and Behavioral Skills Specialist with visuals, tasks, skills development, and schedules for students experiencing autism.
7. Support 1:1 for new students transitioning to the district experiencing autism and needing direct instruction and routines set-up.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
