OCSD Students Attend Legislative Breakfast at Clackamas Community College
On the morning of December 6th, 2023, students, regional education leaders, and board members from the surrounding areas gathered in the Gregory Forum building on Clackamas Community College’s campus to share a breakfast with several of Oregon state’s legislative representatives. The event, hosted in partnership by the Clackamas Educational Service District and Clackamas Community College, was a rare opportunity for those mentioned above to meet with legislators and have conversations about what is currently happening, and what they’d like to see happen, in advance of the 2024 Oregon legislative session. The morning began with table talk followed by a presentation from a panel made up of CCC leaders, Molalla River School District Superintendent Tony Mann, and Ron Antlitz, a special education teacher at Alder Creek Middle School in Milwaukie and 2022-23 Regional Teacher of the Year. The morning concluded with legislative representatives speaking about what they’ve heard and what they’re currently working on.
Three members of the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Committee were invited to attend this breakfast. Jace Werts from Oregon City High School, Austynn Jester-Feldcher form Oregon City High School, and Avian Jenik from Oregon City Service Learning Academy had the opportunity to shake hands and share their thoughts directly with Oregon State Senator Mark Meek, as well as Annessa Hartman, Representative of Oregon House District 40.
