Elementary Music Specialist


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree.

2. Valid Oregon license with appropriate endorsements.

3. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES:

None

JOB GOAL:

To develop an appreciation of the art of music as part of the general culture; teach the techniques of vocal and/or instrumental music; and develop knowledge and skills in listening to and reading music.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Teach skills in music appreciation, harmony and explorations in music, both vocal and instrumental.

2. Plan a balanced music program, organize daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.

3. Provide individual and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.

4. Utilize a repertoire of all types of music, including traditional and contemporary.

5. Control the storage and use of school-owned property.

6. Plan, rehearse, direct pupils in musical programs for school and community.

7. Communicate with parents on pupil progress.

8. Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.

9. Maintain professional competence through in-service education programs and/or self selected professional growth activities.

10. Perform other tasks as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be established in accordance with the certified collective bargaining agreement.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
