Teacher: Elementary or MS ELD


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Oregon teaching license with appropriate subject endorsement.

2. Bilingual preferred.

3. Valid first aid card.

4. Written and oral communication skills.

5. Knowledge of ELD issues and methodology.

6. Formal and informal education or training sufficient to perform job.

JOB GOAL:

To assist in oversight of the EL Program as it seeks to provide equal access to academic success for all students whose first language is not English.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develop the limited English proficient student's receptive and expressive oral language skills in his/her second language: English

2. Develops the limited English proficient student's reading and writing skills in his/her second language: English.

3. Administers qualifying language proficiency assessments to determine proficiency level for establishing ELD program placement and baseline for progress monitoring.

4. Work with administration, specialists and classroom teachers to plan and implement an appropriate program/model (including collaborative co-teaching) for EL students to receive instruction in ELD and, where needed, in content and first language literacy.

5. Assist in assigning and supervising EL support staff as needed to facilitate effective delivery of ELD supports and services.

6. Administers formative and summative academic and language acquisition assessments to students for the purpose of progress monitoring and program evaluation.

7. Maintain working and cumulative files, sending documents and reports to the EL TOSA and EL secretary for district files and records.

8. Participate in planning and implementing in-service and staff development for mainstream teachers and other staff to understand collective and individual needs of EL students and help develop strategies to accommodate those needs.

9 Assist in arranging interpretation as needed for parents, students, conferences, and schools in enrolling and filling out forms for free and reduced lunch and needed transportation services.

10. Develop EL student's awareness, understanding, and appreciation of their culture and that of others.

11. Work collaboratively with teacher teams in adapting instruction for the second language learner in content classes and developing appropriate interventions.

12. Work effectively with EL parents and inform them of ways that they can be involved in their children’s education.

13. Work collaboratively and cooperatively with the District ELL TOSA and Director of Special Programs, in concert with the building principal, to carryout the required activities and expectations of the approved ELL Plan.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the building administrator in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation.
