Meet Our School resource officer
Officer Plummer
A School Resource Officer (SRO) is a law enforcement officer with specialized training, assigned to work within our schools. The primary goal of an SRO is to prioritize building strong, positive connections with our staff, students, parents, and community. Their role in our schools does not include discipline, but rather focuses on promoting safety and security within the school environment and beyond.
SROs play an important role in educating our students on various aspects of law, personal safety, and the importance of making positive life choices. This educational aspect often includes a range of topics from drug prevention to bullying to personal safety education.
SROs are pivotal in nurturing a working relationship between the student body and law enforcement agencies. They serve as mentors and educators, while also bridging the gap between school administrations and local police departments. Such efforts in relationship-building are vital for building mutual trust and understanding between students and law enforcement personnel.
Beyond their role in fostering relationships, SROs are adept at managing a variety of scenarios that may arise on school grounds. They are prepared to act in emergencies, advise on safety measures, and provide support to both students and staff. Their presence contributes to creating a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel secure, confident, and empowered.
The Oregon City School District is grateful for its partnership with the Oregon City Police Department, and their provision of an SRO for our schools. This partnership is a notable example of our district’s dedication to the well-being and safety of our students, staff, and our community.
Officer Plummer is the SRO for Oregon City School District. Officer Plummer has served our community as a police officer for 25 years and as an SRO for 7 years. What he loves the most about being an SRO is the chance to truly connect with students. One of the highlights in his career is witnessing students’ growth throughout their years to graduation. He actively seeks out those who are experiencing life’s challenges, to offer support and guidance, and to help support them as they overcome obstacles. Celebrating their victories, big and small, is what drives him to be an SRO. He’s a valued member of We Dine Together, a group dedicated to sharing meals and building connections. Beyond his commitment to student success, Officer Plummer finds fulfillment in keeping the school community safe.
