Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the principal, assists the administrative team in the improvement of curriculum and instruction to ensure high academic achievement of all students. The associate principal helps with supervision and evaluation of staff, works to maintain a positive learning environment through student behavior management on campus and during student activities and athletics, and works with the administrative team on general supervision of the total high school program.
Essential Functions:
Curriculum/Instruction
1. Assist the principal and administrative team with curriculum design and implementation to ensure high achievement for all students in the high school academic program.
2. Share in the implementation and monitoring of a system of curriculum program evaluation - both formative and summative.
3. Encourage and assist with innovations in instruction.
4. Seek out, assess, and recommend new teaching methods, materials and technologies.
5. Supervise various special programs, which may include ESOL and/or Special Education.
6. May have or share responsibilities in various areas of curriculum and master schedule development.
Personnel
1. Work cooperatively with all staff to help solve problems and to ensure continuous professional growth.
2. Assist with evaluations of classified and licensed staff.
3. Assist with supervision of substitute teachers.
4. Assist with public relations and act as a community liaison.
5. Share responsibility for student management and discipline.
6. Work with students to improve attendance.
7. Provide an interpretation of school and district policies and procedures to students and staff.
Management
1. Supervise the school campus and monitor student behavior during activities and athletic events, on campus or at events away from campus.
2. Exercise leadership and supervision of other functions and activities as assigned by the principal.
General
1. Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
2. Work effectively with and respond to people from diverse cultures or backgrounds.
3. Follow all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by proper authority
4. Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, and District patrons.
5. Confer regularly with immediate supervisor.
6. Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to exercise some independent judgment while adhering to prescribed policies and procedures and perform the essential functions of the position with minimal supervision.
2. Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in partnership with supervisors, other staff, students, and the general public.
3. Ability to demonstrate professionalism in dress, speech and manner appropriate to the assignment and work setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
2. Master’s degree or higher in education.
3. Valid Oregon administrative certificate.
4. Minimum of five years successful teaching or administrative experience in public education.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Bilingual Spanish.
2. Successful teaching experience in a secondary or high school setting.
3. Experience supporting student behaviors and understanding of best practices for Social Emotional Learning.
4. Understanding of Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
5. Strong lens on educational equity and serving the needs of diverse students.
