Special Services Director


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Master's degree with academic training in special education and related fields.

2. Valid Oregon administrative license.

3. Minimum of three years of successful teaching and/ or administrative experience in public education dealing with special services.

4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL:

Directs the planning, delivery, assessment and continuous improvement of District special education programs.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinate Special Services programs in the District.

2. Develop budget recommendations and provide expenditure control on established budgets for Special Services.

3. Assist in planning, delivery, assessment and continuous improvement of an effective system-wide guidance and counseling program.

4. Assist in planning, developing, and supervising a district-wide assessment program.

5. Develop ongoing professional development programs for Special Services and other related staff.

6. Assign, supervise and evaluate school psychologists, speech pathologists, occupational and physical therapists, nurses and other related service providers.

7. Continually assess service models and recommend, as appropriate, implementation or alteration of special services program components.

8. Plan, develop, and coordinate a district-wide system of health services.

9. Maintain expert knowledge of local, state and federal laws and regulations governing services for children with disabilities.

10. Assume responsibility for own professional development; remaining current with research, through professional reading and workshop/conference participation, to identify opportunities for improvement of techniques in specialized areas.

11. Evaluate, in cooperation with building administrators, and recommend for promotion, any school based personnel serving in the Special Services department.

12. Assist in recruitment, selection, and recommendation for hiring of any Special Services personnel.

13. Assume responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports and records legally required or administratively useful.

14. Develop and maintain complete and cumulative individual records of all children receiving special services or enrolled in special classes.

15. Supervise the preparation of attendance reports, census reports and similar data reports necessary for continuing state and federal funding.

16. Develop appropriate contracts with other educational entities and/or community partner to ensure accurate accounting of tuition for out-of-district students and similar fiscal matters.

17. Serve as a skilled collaborative member of various district leadership groups, including serving on the Superintendent’s Cabinet.

18. Perform other tasks as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

240 days per year. Salary to be established by the Superintendent.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the appropriate staff member from the Superintendent's office.
