Position Summary:
The job of Assistant Transportation Supervisor is done for the purpose of assisting to provide oversight within the Transportation Department with an emphasis on training, maintaining department training records in accordance with mandated requirements, driving buses as needed and coordinating assigned projects.
This position serves under the Transportation Supervisor. The Transportation Assistant Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the planning, budgeting, training, and maintaining compliance with policies and programs. The Transportation Assistant Supervisor directly contributes to and leads for the achievement of District and department goals and objectives. They hire and evaluate designated personnel under this position's control. Work is guided by and must comply with federal and state law, the policy direction of the School Board, and compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies.
Essential Functions:
Program Operations:
● Supervises and evaluates Transportation Department personnel in accordance with District policy and the scope of the job description.
● Works under the immediate supervision of the Transportation Supervisor.
● Assists the Transportation Supervisor in developing a transportation program to meet all the requirements of the daily instructional program, student services, out-of-district placements, and extracurricular activities.
● Assists the Transportation Supervisor in the preparation and administration of the transportation budget.
● Assists with preparing and reviewing bus routes and schedules for all schools in the District.
● Assists with the supervision of the Safety and Training Leads in scheduling all classes necessary for driver certification as required by law.
● Assists with the oversight of the planning and implementation of the training program for applicants accepted for training.
● Assists with the preparation of the in-service training for school bus drivers, which supports district and department goals and complies with the requirements for ODE continuation of School Bus Driver certification.
● Maintains confidential records related to driver certification.
● Maintains current information on district, state and federal policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
ODE Driving and Supervision Qualifications:
● Possession of or will (within a pre-determined period of time) obtain CDL
Customer Service:
● Builds and maintains strong working relationships with school personnel, central office, and building staff using a customer service model that assures the operational program is responsive and sensitive to the needs of students, patrons, and school staff.
● Will be required to interact with clients, customers, and staff who are emotionally upset, angry, or distraught. In such interactions, the employee must be able to maintain control, decorum, and professionalism.
Safety:
● Assists with the oversight of all aspects of accidents: response, reports, records, documentation, investigation, and re-training.
● Provides all required reports to ODE.
● May participate in the district’s Crisis Response Team.

Minimum Qualifications:
● Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
● At least one year of successful supervisory experience.
● Successful experience working with culturally diverse families and communities. In the absence of such experience, a demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skills in communicating with diverse populations.
● Effective oral and written communications.
● Analytical ability, knowledge and skill in the use of office technology and office software, which includes but not limited to Microsoft Office Tools, Google Suite, and Student Information Systems.
● Knowledge of mapping and routing systems with at least one-year experience.
● Ability to read and interpret street and internet mapping systems.
● Knowledge of district area and school boundaries.
● Presentation and training skills. Able to present to large groups.
● Knowledge of laws, codes, rules, policies and regulations relating to pupil transportation.
● Strong understanding and history of successful customer service and ability to establish and maintain effective relations with patrons and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree in business or related field.
● Three years’ experience assigning work in related field.
● Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in pupil transportation.
● School bus driver certification, behind-the-wheel training certification, ODE classroom training certification, third-party testing certificate, and CORE Certification.
● First Aid Certified Instructor.
● Bilingual and bicultural skills.

● While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be working in poor weather conditions, including rain, snow, wind, and cold.
● This position is subject to random drug testing under Department of Transportation guidelines and in compliance with District anti-drug and alcohol prevention programs.
