Head Mechanic
qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Must have a minimum of four years of experience as a mechanic in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline engines, air brakes, automatic transmissions, power trains, electrical systems and components.
3. Possession of a valid class B CDL and an excellent driving record.
4. Must have or be able to obtain a valid Oregon School Bus Drivers certificate and a First Aid card.
5. Must have leadership capabilities to assign work and direct the work activities of the other mechanics working in the shop.
6. Must have the ability to work independently, organize the work of the shop, set priorities and meet deadlines.
7. Must be proficient in the operations of all types of shop tools associated with the maintenance of large vehicles powered by currently used fuels (gasoline and diesel).
8. Must have effective oral and written skills. Must possess computer skills sufficient to use a fleet maintenance program and district email.
9. Must have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with co-workers, students, staff, administration and the public.
10. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOAL:
To be responsible for the complete and safe operation and maintenance of all District vehicles.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintains the District’s transportation fleet in compliance with the school district, state, and federal standards and requirements.
2. Plans, oversees and assists in the diagnosis, repairs, and state inspections of all district vehicles.
3. Maintains a system for keeping complete and accurate vehicle repair/maintenance records and expenditures.
4. Initiates purchase orders for needed supplies and repair parts.
5. Maintains a clean, safe and orderly arrangement of the shop work area at all times.
6. Updates the dispatchers and supervisors on the condition, progress, and availability of vehicle’s needing repair at all times.
7. Services on the Transportation Safety Committee and attends the monthly meetings.
8. Performs as a substitute driver only as needed.
9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Twelve-month year, eight hours per day. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Transportation Supervisor in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
