Middle School Administrative Secretary


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of modern office methods, practices and procedures; business English, spelling and arithmetic.

2. Ability to perform clerical work with speed and accuracy.

3. Ability to type at a rate of 50 wpm from clear legible copy.

4. Ability to learn operation of data processing system.

5. Ability to make arithmetical calculations.

6. Ability to learn to interpret and apply school laws, policies, rules and regulations.

7. Ability to spell correctly and use good English, understand, carry out and give oral and written directions.

8. Ability to maintain effective relationships with students, staff members and the general public.

9. Ability to administer first aid.

10. Ability to respect confidential information and prepare reports.

11. Ability to assume responsibility for other related duties as directed by supervisor.

REPORTS TO:

One to building principal and the other to the vice principal.

SUPERVISES:

Supervision may, in some instances, be a normal responsibility of this classification.

JOB GOAL:

Under general direction of the middle school administrators performs work as a secretary; performs or supervises the performance of varied office functions including secretarial, clerical, and receptionist duties.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Acts as secretary to the principal and as an intermediary with delegated administrative detail duties.

2. Keeps students personnel, financial, statistical, inventory and other related records and prepares and submits reports to the central administration and education agencies.

3. Serves as a receptionist, answers phone calls, arranges for interviews and delivers messages.

4. Operates all office equipment used at the middle school and inputs, queries and receives information to and from data processing.

5. Handles student body monies and student insurance accounts, lists and forms.

6. Trains and supervises assistant secretaries and student office assistants.

7. Types requisitions and processes bills for payment; orders office supplies.

8. Types handbooks, bulletins, calendars, schedules, agendas, etc.

9. Serves as liaison between principal and staff, students and public.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

As assigned. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal or his designee in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
