Media Assistant
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Ability to learn/run Alexandria library automation system on computer.
2. Ability/willingness to operate and/or troubleshoot a variety of instructional media equipment including computers, video and computerized projectors, etc.
3. Ability to make some independent judgments with prescribed policies and procedures.
4. Ability to assist teachers with student learning activities related to the library.
5. Ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions.
6. Ability to communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the use of both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches.
7. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other staff and students.
8. Ability to word process rapidly and accurately.
9. Reasonable knowledge of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage and sentence construction of the English language as necessary to detect and correct basic errors in prepared material.
10. Reasonable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
11. Reasonable knowledge of A-V and computer technology as it relates to library use.
12. Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
REPORTS TO:
Principal or designee and District media specialist responsible for specific assignments.
SUPERVISES:
Library volunteers and/or student assistants.
JOB GOAL:
Performs a variety of library media center duties related to maintenance of and access to the collection and equipment. This position will coordinate and supervise the library media program and may include limited classroom instruction under the supervision of the District media specialist or other certified teacher.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervises students in the media center.
2. Manages automated, computerized library system for circulation, reports, overdue notices, billing, etc.
3. Shelves books and materials, and maintains their shelf order.
4. Promotes and assists in use and maintenance of equipment and library-related technology.
5. Processes new magazines, books, multi-media materials, appropriate library supplies, and orders.
6. Maintains shelf list.
7. Maintains inventory of materials and equipment as appropriate.
8. Processes individual, small group, or class check out.
9. Mends books/materials as appropriate.
10. Assists teachers and students in locating appropriate curriculum support materials.
11. Assists teacher with student activities relating to the library.
12. Maintains a pleasant atmosphere.
13. Serves as liaison between teachers and district specialist.
14. Participates in workshops or inservices to improve media skills.
15. Performs related duties as directed by the building administrator and certified teacher in charge.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
