Autism and Behavioral Skills Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of students with social and behavioral issues including children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or related needs.
2. Training and experience in providing school-based autism services.
3. Familiarity with inclusive education strategies.
4. Proficiency in participation in special education interdisciplinary case management.
5. Qualified to conduct, or familiar with, appropriate screenings and assessments.
6. Experience with differential diagnosis or identification of children and adolescents demonstrating characteristics of ASD or other neurodevelopmental disorders.
7. Ability to support students and staff with appropriate behavioral supports and interventions.
8. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
10. Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team.
11. Excellent time and material organizational skills.
12. Familiarity with functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
13. Work collaborative with school staff to assess and create behavior intervention plans.
14. Masters Degree in school psychology or similar clinical field, preferred.
15. Two years of direct service with special education/high risk children in a school setting, preferred.
16. Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in Good standing with the BACB
17. Current licensure as an Oregon Licensed Behavior Analyst OR current Oregon TSPC license.
REPORTS TO:
Director of Student Services, Principal or designee.
SUPERVISES:
None
JOB GOAL:
Performs a variety of tutorial assignments in collaboration with Student Services and IEP teams. May function in an instructional setting without much supervision.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist building teams and school psychologists with evaluation of children with autism spectrum disorder or other social/behavioral challenges.
2. Provide consultation to parent/school teams regarding appropriate supports, social skills development and educational strategies for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or related needs.
3. Keep updated on latest research and practices related to identification and education of children with autism spectrum disorder of similar social/emotional/behavioral needs.
4. Provide functional behavioral analysis training and consultation to school teams working with children with social behavioral needs stemming from ASD or other neurodevelopmental needs.
5. Assist the student’s IEP team with selection of psychoeducational assessments and subsequent staff consultation.
6. Regularly participate in district meetings and in-service projects, skills/resource networking with other personnel and additional professional development as appropriate.
7. Coordinate and supervise services of a paraprofessional who will assist with selected students’ skill development.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
