School Nurse


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in nursing from accredited university that includes public health nursing preparation and experience.

2. Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience with pediatric care.

3. Licensed to practice as registered nurse in Oregon.

4. Eligible for Oregon license as a school nurse.

5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Director of Special Services

SUPERVISES:

None

JOB GOAL:

To coordinate the district-wide, comprehensive health program.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervise (as defined in OAR 551-47-010) unlicensed persons in the performance of basic and/or special tasks of client/nursing care.

2. Recommend development of policy and procedures for emergency care.

3. Supervise the implementation of the communicable disease control Oregon statute and District policy.

4. Provide consultation to school staff for reporting immunization status and TB status to County Health Division.

5. Identify and assist students who have health risks:

a. Consult with parents regarding their child’s health status.

b. Communicate with physicians regarding a student’s medical management goals.

c. Develop, with building staff, individual health plans that include appropriate modifications and/or accommodations for an identified student.

6. Coordinate appropriate preventive health-screening activities.

7. Assist building staff with management of school health data, including student health records.

8. Interpret student health data to school staff in order to facilitate educational planning.

9. Recommend to parents and school staff appropriate private and/or community health care resources.

10. Serve as a resource in health education.

11. Promote a safe and healthy school environment.

12. Consult with District counseling staff regarding health needs of students.

13. Collaborate with Nutrition Services regarding health and safety issues.

14. Complete medical billing procedures for school-based health services provided Medicaid-eligible students.

15. Collaborate with the County Health Division regarding School-Based Health Center services.

16. Performs other tasks as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be established in accordance with the certified collective bargaining agreement.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the certified collective bargaining agreement.
