Director of Communications & Engagement


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or similar field and experience in the field of public relations.

2. Experience in the use of social media, public communication tools and Google applications.

3. Demonstrated proficiency in supervisory experience.

4. Ability to write clear, concise and factually correct communications.

5. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing with the media, small groups, large groups and the public in English and Spanish.

6. Being bilingual is preferred, but not required.

7. Ability to work individually and in partnerships with a minimum of direction.

8. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

9. Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.

10. Work well with others from diverse cultures and backgrounds.

11. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations.

12. Proficiency in using graphic design software, e-mail and word processing software.

13. Maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license.

JOB GOAL:

To coordinate communications efforts and develop and maintain positive relations with all stakeholders, including community, staff and media aligned to the district’s strategic plan. Work with media to provide information about district news and events. Serve as district liaison with community partners. Produce district publications. Oversee and update the district web site. Plan and develop parent engagement strategies, including district volunteer program. This position supervises school volunteer coordinators. This position reports to the superintendent and is a member of the district’s cabinet.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plan and implement the district’s public information program, using best practices to establish and enhance two-way communication with staff, media, families and the community.

2. Serve as Public Information Officer and liaison between the district and the news media; create, review and authorize public dissemination of district information to the media and the public.

3. Provide a community public relations point of view to district-level decisions and as a member of the superintendent’s cabinet, serve as an advisor with the other directors to the superintendent on other leadership issues.

4. Provide input to the administrative team in developing school and community relations and outreach efforts

5. Provide professional public relations counsel and assistance to the administration, School Board and schools

6. Maintain the district website and all social media accounts and provide support to schools for maintaining their school websites

7. Produce district publications, including Student-Parent Handbook, brochures, videos and other materials

8. Develop, coordinate and support public engagement efforts and community forums for the district

9. Communicate informational material effectively and professionally through small and large group presentations to diverse groups within the district and various community partners

10. Develop, coordinate and support parent engagement strategies, i.e., District Parent Advisory Council and Parent Academy

11. Develop, coordinate and support communication and information activities for bond and/or local option elections

12. Manage responses to requests for public information about the district

13 .Coordinate and support the district volunteer program

14. Coordinate community donations to district, students and families

15. Serve as the district liaison to various regional and local community organizations.

16. Develop, coordinate and support district special projects, i.e., Soar with Your Dreams career development program

17. Complete projects in a timely fashion and maintain organization of multiple projects simultaneously

18. Maintain consistent and predictable attendance to meet the requirements of the position

19. Other duties as assigned

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

240 days per year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of administrators.
