Carpenter
qualifications:
One year of journeyman-level carpentry experience, including the building and finishing of cabinets and other furnishings. Some experience in performing varied building maintenance tasks. Sufficient education to demonstrate an ability to read and write as required in the position. Formal training in carpentry. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.
1. Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and practices of carpentry. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, tools and materials used in general building maintenance and repair work.
2. Reasonable knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.
3. Knowledge of electrical systems.
4. Knowledge of plumbing practices.
5. Journeyman-level carpentry skills.
6. Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools used in carpentry and maintenance work.
7. Ability to prepare detailed sketches and layouts of carpentry and maintenance work.
8. Ability to work from written or oral instructions, to plan and organize work and to estimate the scope of each assignment.
9. Ability to read, interpret and follow appropriate building codes.
10. Ability to safely operate hand and mechanical tools used in carpentry and building maintenance trades.
11. Ability to perform strenuous manual tasks and to withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions.
12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other maintenance and District staff.
13. Possession of a valid Oregon chauffeur's license upon appointment and a good driving record.

performance responsibilities:
An employee in this classification may perform any of the following duties. However, these examples do not include all the specific tasks which an employee may be expected to perform.
1. Performs a variety of carpentry work including building, finishing and repairing cabinets, furniture, shelves, tables and partitions, putting in false ceiling, sheetrocking, framing and hanging doors, etc.
2. Replaces and repairs counters, sinks, fixtures, cabinets, windows, ceilings, athletic equipment, lights, fans and floors, etc.
3. Lays Formica tops and installs linoleum.
4. Finishes wood surfaces; applies paint or stain; applies sealers and lacquer finishes, etc.
5. Performs minor electrical and plumbing work within the schools such as wiring light switches and plugs, repairing electrical equipment and machines, replacing broken pipes, etc.
6. Installs playground equipment; performs welding as required.
7. Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.
8. Performs related tasks as assigned.
terms of employment:
Ten-, eleven-, or twelve-month year, eight hours per day. Salary and work year to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Facilities Services Supervisor in accordance with the terms of the Board's policy on evaluation.
