Custodian/Groundskeeper, Middle School
qualifications:
1. Reasonable knowledge of modern cleaning methods and the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
2. Reasonable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tasks and materials used in grounds maintenance and in maintaining athletic fields.
3. Skill in the use of cleaning materials and equipment, including stripper/buffing machine, wet/dry vacuum cleaners, etc.
4. Knowledge of safety practices related to grounds maintenance and building maintenance.
5. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
6. Ability to prioritize work within defined guidelines.
7. Ability to lay out athletic fields.
8. Ability to safely and efficiently operate hand and power tools and equipment necessary to perform grounds and building custodial work.
9. Ability to perform strenuous manual tasks and to withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors and school personnel.
Two years of general experience in grounds and custodial maintenance work. Sufficient education to insure the ability to read and write as required in the position. Any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience and training which insures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above.

performance responsibilities:
An employee in this classification may perform any of the following duties. However, these examples do not include all the specific tasks which an employee may be expected to perform.
1. Works from a prepared work schedule; sweeps, scrubs, waxes and polishes concrete, linoleum, tile and wood floors; vacuums carpets.
2. Replaces light bulbs and fluorescent lamps and occasionally makes other minor plumbing and electrical repairs, such as replacing washers or repairing broken electrical outlets.
3. Mows and waters lawn areas, prunes trees, bushes and shrubs, weeds plant and flower beds and edges lawn areas.
4. Operates a tractor to move irrigation pipe and other equipment or materials. Sets up and connects irrigation pipe to water athletic fields.
5. Sets up public address system for athletic events.
6. Moves bleachers, furniture and equipment.
7. Lines athletic fields, prepares field for games.
8. Maintains and repairs equipment, broken furniture, and equipment as necessary.
terms of employment:
Twelve-month year, eight hours per day. Salary and work year to be established by the Board of Education.
