District Technology Server Specialist


qualifications:

1. Associate’s Degree in related field and/or 3+ years experience working in Apple, Microsoft or Novell server environments. (Mixed environments preferred.)

2. Experience working in a distributed WAN environment.

3. Excellent customer service and written/verbal communication skills.

4. Successful experience troubleshooting and managing servers and performing maintenance and backup operations.

5. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues in varied hardware and software environments.

6. Ability and experience supporting varied desktop platforms (Windows, Apple, Linux).

7. Knowledge of networking models and varied protocols (IP, AFP, FTP, CIFS, SMB, Apple Talk, etc.) and the ability to apply them appropriately.

8. Ability to create meaningful web content and administer web servers (Apache, IIS, etc.).

9. Ability to maintain professional working relationships and work in harmony with employees, teachers, students, and the community.

10. Ability to prioritize tasks in a stressful environment.

11. Must possess the physical ability to occasionally lift 50-70 pounds.

12. Must be able to pass a criminal background check as required by the district and state.

13. Valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for site visits.

The District Technology Server Specialist is a member of the Technology Services Department primarily responsible for the installation, configuration, management and backup of server based systems and applications that support instructional and administrative business systems. This individual also works with district-level and building-level support staff to creatively find solutions to problems and recommends and implements new technologies to enhance teaching, learning and business functionality.

performance responsibilities:

1. Install, configure, manage, and backup servers, workstations and monitor performance of hardware and applications in networked environments.

2. Participate in defining hardware/software specifications, configuration, and operation of district servers and applications.

3. Develop cross-platform support solutions for servers, workstations and applications using Apple, Microsoft, Linus and Novell platforms.

4. Act as a web system administrator ensuring high reliability and create and evaluate pertinent content for the district site, as well as respective sites for schools, and provide assistance to employees who publish content on the district web site.

5. Work with the District Technology Team and building technology coordinators.

6. Provide phone/email support for technology staff as well as district employees.

7. Participate in approved professional development activities to keep current on technology trends and developments.

8. Attend relevant meetings in the District, CESD, and at the local and state level as required by the District.

9. Create materials for teaching others how to use technology tools provided by the district.

10. Perform other school district related duties as required or directed by the supervisor.

11. Develop and maintain documentation of technology related equipment and services.

12. Ability to create meaningful web content and administer web servers (Apache, IIS, etc.)

As agreed. Salary to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the District Technology Coordinator in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation.
