Family Liaison


qualifications:

1. High School diploma plus extensive background working with volunteers and community groups preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

2. Familiarity with structure and operations of elementary schools.

3. Strong understanding of security, screening and confidentiality concerns related to volunteer personnel.

4. Ability to organize, develop and manage multiple programs.

5. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

6. Ability to be self-directed.

7. Ability to effectively develop and lead training opportunities for district staff, parents and community groups.

8. Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

9. Ability to train adults.

10. Willing to work varying hours as needed.

11. Ability to perform duties using independent initiative and judgment and to use resourcefulness, courtesy and tact in public/group contacts.

12. Excellent organization, decision making and problem solving skills.

13. Ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators and other staff.

job goal:

Supports family and community engagement in our district’s Title elementary schools by creating and maintaining a volunteer program and providing a variety of parent education and leadership opportunities.

performance responsibilities:

1. Meets with teachers and other staff to identify and define appropriate opportunities for volunteers to serve needs in the classroom or school.

2. Meets with parent and community groups to explain opportunities for partnerships with the schools.

3. Assists with the recruitment of volunteers for varying school needs.

4. Develops and manages the volunteer application process to ensure compliance.

5. Develops and manages the volunteer training program, including training in confidentiality, expectations, and appropriate interactions with, and supervision of, students.

6. Collaborates with school personnel to ensure appropriate volunteer placement, consistent with the volunteer’s skills and interests.

7. Works with school personnel to ensure that volunteers continue to be used in appropriate settings.

8. Works with school personnel to identify and define appropriate opportunities for parent and family involvement, including but not restricted to volunteering in the classroom or school, as parent leaders and on district committees.

9. Develops, maintains and oversees distribution of parent and volunteer resources including, but not limited to, a volunteer website and handbook.

10. Communicates information concerning family involvement opportunities and benefits to parents through a variety of medium including website, newsletters and group presentations.

11. Collaborates with schools and other departments to develop and manage parent education opportunities designed to engage families in student achievement.

12. Develops and implements a leadership development program for parents.

13. Develops and leads workshops on parent involvement, leadership, advocacy and other related topics for presentation to district staff, parents and community groups.

terms of employment:

Twelve-month year, eight hours per day. Salary and work year to be established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.

evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Special Programs Administrator in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation.
