Library Secretary
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of English, spelling, and arithmetic.
2. Ability to communicate with students, staff and the general public.
3. Requires dependability, tact, courtesy and discreetness.
4. Ability to word process rapidly and accurately and be able/willing to operate a variety of instructional media equipment, including the computer.
5. Ability to maintain clerical records and file alphabetically or by the Dewey Decimal System.
6. Familiarity and enjoyment of children's books.
7. Ability to assist teachers with student activities relating to the library.
8. Ability to communicate with appropriate student age group, requiring the use of both empathetic and disciplinary approaches.
9. Establish and maintain harmonious working relations with staff and students.
10. Clean and neat appearance.
REPORTS TO:
Principal and certified teacher responsible for specific assignments.
SUPERVISES:
As assigned.
JOB GOAL:
Performs a variety of library and clerical work associated with the organization and maintenance of print and audio-visual material and computers.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Organizes library materials in accordance with established systems; charges out library materials, shelves circulated books and materials; maintains proper order among those students using the library.
2. Assists students in the proper use of library resources; assists teachers and students.
3. Prepares library exhibits and displays.
4. Types book pockets and cards, paste pockets and due slips, stamp ownership; inventories library and audio-visual equipment; makes minor repairs to damaged books.
5. Maintains circulation records, and prepares and sends overdue notices.
6. Assists with circulation system of audio-visual equipment; processes film ordering, receives distribution and shipment procedures for Education Service District film loan service.
7. Takes care of fines and payment of lost materials.
8. Assists with the supervision of student aides.
9. Assists in keeping the library organized and neat.
10. Assists in use and maintenance of equipment.
11. Promotes and assists in the use and maintenance of library-related technology.
12. Assists teachers and students in locating appropriate curriculum-support materials.
13. Participates in administratively suggested workshops/inservices to improve media/technology skills.
14. Serves as liaison between teachers and district media specialist when there is no building specialist.
15. Performs related duties as directed by the building administrator or librarian.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As agreed. Salary to the established by the labor agreement and ratified by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation.
