Media Specialist


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Oregon education media certification.

2. Teaching experience or equivalent appropriate experience.

3. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.

4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Media Assistant and/or Library Secretary

JOB GOAL:

To provide an environment in which students may use reading, listening, viewing and technology to learn, explore, and research in becoming lifelong learners.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Fosters an understanding and cooperative relationship with students, teachers, parents, visitors and administrators about the media program.

2. Works with classroom teachers in determining the interests, abilities and needs of pupils.

3. Plans with teachers in the development and dissemination of the media program.

4. Provides learning experiences that encourage students to become discriminatory users of information through a range of communication formats and use of current and emerging technology.

5. Works with teachers as a curriculum resource in the development and assessment of projects/instructional activities.

6. Provides leadership, instruction and consulting assistance in the use of instructional and information technology.

7. Works closely with the building principal in designing a library schedule, and keeps the principal informed about the accomplishments and needs of the media program.

8. Encourages teachers to send individuals, small groups and classes to the media center for research and media instruction.

9. Participates actively in the planning and evaluation of the school curriculum; takes part in scheduled curriculum days and District inservice programs; and attends professional workshops, meetings and conventions in order to keep informed about research, new technology, materials and procedures.

10. Screens, selects, orders, organizes and circulates all types of instructional materials and the necessary equipment to fulfill the needs and demands of students and teachers.

11. Trains and supervises volunteers and library assistants to help in the media center.

12. Maintains records and statistics as required by the building principal and the School District.

13. Evaluated continuously the media program and plans for future growth and development to facilitate District goals and changing needs.

14. Observes proper professional lines of communication and is directly responsible to the building principal.

15. Prepares weekly lesson plans.

16. Performs other tasks as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and work year to be established in accordance with the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.
