TOSA Instructional Support Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master's degree in education, special education or related field.
2. Valid Oregon teaching license.
3. Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in public education.
4. Excellent communication skills using multi modalities of communication (interpersonal, tech based, team collaboration.)
5. Demonstrated ability with data analysis.
6. Experience facilitating professional development and instructional coaching preferred.

JOB GOAL:
To create and maintain equitable and engaging learning environments through instructional coaching and coordination of student academic support.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Engage teachers in a collaborative coaching partnership focused on student learning and outcomes.
2. Engage teachers in the use of data to drive and adjust instructional practices for improved student outcomes (including creating and managing data systems and coaching teachers to respond to data from a variety of sources - assessments, observations, and other sources).
3. Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities in various sizes, settings, and platforms (conferences, building level meetings, PLCs, and other groups).
4. Attend and participate in a variety of meetings to become informed and to share perspectives to bridge and facilitate coaching.
5. Build professional knowledge of coaching strategies, including professional relationship building educational pedagogy and co-teaching.
6. Design and facilitate family engagement activities (build parent capacity to support learning and encourage leadership by families) using a cultural competence lens. (Multilingual/Multicultural)
7. Demonstrate a commitment to equity in all settings with a focus on disrupting disparities for historically underserved students.
8. Other duties as assigned.
The Instructional Support Specialist is specifically designated as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). Under the direct supervision and evaluation of the building principal. Their role is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to building academic language, Universal Design for Learning, Design Thinking and Inquiry Based Learning strategies and other district initiatives. All Instructional Support Specialists work collaboratively as a team with the offices of Teaching & Learning. Instructional Support Specialists will prompt reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, and focus on strengths, collaboration, and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co- planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers.
Special Requirements:
Certified in any specific teaching area
Minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in public education
Instructional coaching experience recommended, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs
Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners
Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions
Demonstrated teacher leadership
Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise, including second language acquisition
Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities
Spanish bilingual preferred, but not required

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the building administrator and Director of Teaching and Learning in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation.
